OPINION: The Political Conspiracy Against Tinubu

There is a ‘Badbelle’ Peoples’ Congress (BPC) propagating a mischievous political Apocryphal Gospel against Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

This is being led by the naive, defeated political foes and proxies of defeated political foes. For the record, I remain an Afenifere. But not among those who were deceived into following former President Goodluck Jonathan. In the same vein, I am not a Tinubu apologist. I remain a Yoruba who believes that whoever wishes our land and its people well will receive prayers from us. Of course, the reverse is true for those who do not wish us well.

Tinubu built the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) using the carcass of the defunct Alliance for Democracy (AD) beginning with the Action Congress (AC), later Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), which along with others metamorphosed into the APC. Some had predicted APC will split due to the presence of persons with parallel political orientation among its topmost leadership. To Tinubu’s critics, it was a desire to get rid of former President Goodluck Jonathan that united the party – that once Jonathan leaves, everything will fall apart. There is sense in that argument. And it came to pass with the elections of the leadership of the National Assembly yesterday. Persons perceived to have close relationship with Tinubu lost out. And in doing Tinubu’s associates in, those opposed to The Jagaban Borgu made a mockery of APC’s hard-won victory by conceding positions that should have been held by its members to the opposition.

Personally, I do not feel Tinubu should feel any sense of loss. Nigeria remains at rudimentary levels. It accounted for the events of the First Republic when everything was done to divide the Action Group and later setting up Chief Obafemi Awolowo to be jailed. Tinubu, renowned for his political sagacity needs to go back to the drawing board. Those at the Centre will pick some of his best lieutenants and promote them into positions of serious significance to humiliate him. Governors loyal to him will be humiliated directly and indirectly. And it might be worse than what happened under Jonathan.

The ONLY way forward for Tinubu is to urgently return to his political board and start from the South-West, where the journey began to make amends, wherever he has missed it among fellow APC members – beginning with Lagos State. Once the base is solid…
