Pastor Paul Adefarasin clears the air on allegedly pointing a ‘firearm’ at a driver in Lagos traffic.

 

The Senior Pastor of all House on the Rock churches, Pastor Paul Adefarasin, has spoken for the first time since a video surfaced showing him pointing what many social media users claimed was a firearm at a random driver in traffic.

The unnamed driver had recognized the cleric when he wound down his car window and pointed the object.

Amid criticism of Adefarasin’s actions, he has now released a statement addressing the content of the clip.

It reads:

“Dear Family, trusting that this meets you well, winning, and on top of the tests of life.

“You might be aware of a video that has been circulating on social media, showing me in what some have misunderstood as brandishing a firearm.

“I want to assure you of this — that it was certainly not a firearm, and at no point did I point such an object at anyone.

“We understand the concern this accusation may have caused, and we will speak briefly to this mischief during the 9:00 am service tomorrow.

''I'M WRONG''-Pastor Adeboye of the Redeemed christian church of God tenders apology over tithing.

 

 

The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, RCCG, Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye has apologised for saying any believer who does not pay tithes will not make heaven.

 Tendering his apology while delivering a message at the ongoing annual national youth convention of the church going on at the RCCG Redemption City, pastor Adeboye said: “I am going to be talking to everybody as soon as God permit me, I am going to apologise for making a mistake for saying that if you don’t pay tithe, you will not be making it to heaven. That is wrong.

“That is not in the Bible. What the Bible says is to make peace with all men and holiness without which no man shall see God. What the Bible says is, to follow peace with all men and holiness without which no man will make heaven.

“It is possible to be right and wrong at the same time. I will prove it to you. For years, we taught that light travels in a straight line. Later we say it travels in waves.”

Adeboye, who further narrated his experience at one of the conventions of the ministry of Kenneth E Hagin in Tulsa, United States, where a man made a promise to give more than all participants at the convention, said all participants had given about 3.5 million dollars towards the building of the Rhema Bible College. But the man promised he was going to give more than what everybody gave towards the project.

He said: “The man told me how he had started a business with 500 dollars and had told God if he blessed him, he would not insult Him with 10 per cent.

“Five years after the man started the business, he said he was making a turnover of 50 million dollars. And that was what inspired me also to give towards God’s work violently.

“If you want to dominate, you must know how to praise God violently. How did David become king? He was not the first in the family, he was not even recognised but he knew how to praise God, he did not do it gently but violently, with all his might.

“Unfortunately, most of us don’t appreciate that. When we are much younger in the Lord, we praise God freely. As we begin to grow in the Lord, our praise becomes gentle, more civilised, and more polite. David, even after he became king, danced so vigorously that even his wife mocked him.

 “Your giving must be of the violent type. King Solomon gave thousands of burnt offerings to God and God said there would not be a king before or after him, and he would not fight a single war, because kings fight war to retain their domain and the Bible records that he has peace all round.”

APC LEADERS DEFECT TO PDP

 

Ahead of the November 16 governorship election in Ondo State, approximately 5,000 APC leaders from Odigbo council area have defected to PDP.

 Spokesperson Alhaji Yusuf Abdulateef cited APC’s “bad governance” in Ondo State and Nigeria, leading to hunger, poverty, and expensive petrol, as reasons for their departure.

“We rejected APC’s offer to stay because we prioritize the masses, who are suffering under their governance,” Abdulateef said. “We believe Agboola Ajayi has the experience and credentials to redirect Ondo State to prosperity.”

The defectors, including the Iya Ikale group led by Mrs. Akinmoye, were welcomed by Ondo PDP Campaign Council Chairman, Dr. Eddy Olafeso, who promised that PDP would meet their expectations.

Notable PDP leaders present included Agboola Alfred Ajayi, Rt. Hon. Bakita Bello, Hon. Clement Faboyede, and Engr. Ademulegun.

In a related development, APC members from Ajue have also decamped to PDP, received by Hon. Clement Faboyede, who encouraged them to remain steadfast and earn rewards within the party.”

AKWA Ibom State Government has announced the shock passing of Pastor Patience Umo Eno, wife of the state governor, Pastor Umo Eno.

 The state’s Commissioner for Information, Ini Ememobong, in a release at dawn on Friday on the sad news, stated that the State First Lady died following an undisclosed illness.

Ememobong’s statement, tagged “Unexpected Sunset”, read: “It is with heavy hearts that we (Akwa Ibom Government) announce the passing of the wife of the Executive Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Her Excellency, Pastor Mrs Patience Umo Eno, following an illness.

“She passed away peacefully at the hospital, on 26th September, 2024, in the presence of her family.

“The family submits to the will of the Almighty and asks for the prayers and support of kind-hearted individuals during this difficult time.

“Further details will be provided by the family as necessary.

“In the meantime, the family kindly requests privacy as they mourn their beloved wife, mother and grandmother.

“His Excellency, the Governor, Pastor Umo Eno appreciates all who have stood by the first family in this period and assures all the citizens that despite this huge personal loss, his commitment to the service of the state is unwavering.”

BAUCHI PARENTS PROTEST AGAINST 40% INCREASE IN SCHOOL FEES

The hike in school fees forced many parents in the area to keep their wards out of school as they could not afford the exorbitant fees.

Some residents of Bauchi have decried the upward review of school fees by private school proprietors as pupils resumed for the 2024/2025 academic year.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that many private schools have increased registration fees for the new intake and returning students by about 40% compared to the 2023/2024 session. A cross-section of the parents, who spoke in a separate interview with NAN, on Wednesday in Bauchi, described the situation as “worrisome”.

Paul Isiah, a parent, said the increase in the school fees was discouraging and exposed them to difficulties. Isiah said the schools increased their fees amid the rising cost of living and transportation coupled by the fuel subsidy removal in the country. He said that the school fees went up to ₦67,000 as against ₦47,000 in the last academic session.

“I have four children all attending private schools and there is a significant increase in their school fees.

“Private school proprietors have a way of extorting money from parents through text books and other unnecessary charge,” he said.

Isiah said that most parents have a high preference for private schools due to the lack of standards and quality education in public schools. He called for practical measures to reinvigorate the basic education sector and to encourage parents to enroll their wards in public schools.

Another parent, Ahmed Mohammed, said he was contemplating transferring his children from private to public school as he couldn’t afford the fees. Mohammed said the school fees jerked off to ₦25,000 as against ₦15,000, per pupil, adding that, “my salary remained the same while the cost of commodities including school fees are going through the roof”.

Corroborating earlier opinions, Adeyemi Monday, said that payment of school fees was now beyond most parents, who are struggling to give their children a modest education. He, however, said the school proprietors should not be blamed for the hike in fees given the high cost of teaching and learning materials, to enable them to deliver quality education.

“Previously; I was paying ₦40,000 and ₦30,000 as school fees for two of my children. Now, I have to pay ₦55,000 and ₦45,000, respectively.

“Let the government make public schools good to serve as alternatives to such parents who can no longer afford to fees in private schools,” he added.

Similarly; Sikiru Raji, said that he couldn’t afford the school fees due to the inflationary trend and lack of wage rise.

“I paid ₦90,000 as school fees for my child and now it has been increased to ₦135,000,” he said.

Olubunmi Adetoye, a teacher in one of the private schools, said the hike in fees was necessitated by the persistent inflation in the country. She said that prices of educational materials and the cost of transportation had gone up while the proprietors increased salaries of teaching and non-teaching staff due to economic realities in the country.

“With all this, the increase in fees in private schools could be justified,” he noted.

An official of the Private Schools Proprietors Association, who pleaded anonymity, said the development was necessary given the rise in wage bill and cost of maintenance of the schools.

The official attributed the hike in fees high cost of teaching aids and materials, adding, “I’m in the system, I know how it feels, I know how a school is difficult to maintain and I know a lot of schools are crashing now because of the present economic situation of the country.

“It’s not really easy on both sides of the school owners and the parents because we all know that things are not easy right now.

“Based on this reason, for some school owners, if they didn’t increase the fees, their schools are going to crash and standards will fall.

“And when this happens, parents are the first people to remove their children from that school”.

The official advised parents to enroll their children in schools they could afford, adding that, “it is not how expensive the school will determine how successful their children would be in life”.

Reacting, Dr Jemila Dahiru, the Bauchi Commissioner for Education, said that basic education is free in the state. She said the ministry would investigate the alleged increase in school fees by some private school proprietors in the state.

“The private schools unit under the Ministry of Education is going through these complaints, and I assure that we will check whether these were done legitimately and if not, we’ll take action against such schools.

“This is because there is a framework, a kind of structure or policy that guides how you can increase your school fees.

“And from our own side, we are trying to ensure that our public schools are upgraded and that we are putting all the mechanisms in place so that parents can send their children to public schools and that we are able to accommodate them,” she said.

Edo Governorship Election Results Another Bad Name on Democracy - Ondo PDP

 The PDP said the election result was a total disregard for the electoral desires of the Masses as validly expressed through the ballot.

      

The Pdp in Ondo State has rejected the outcome of Edo governorship election.

 

Recall that the Independent National Electoral Commission on Sunday, announced the All Progressives Congress as winner of the election.

 

In a statement issued on Monday by the Special Adviser, Media and Publicity of the PDP Campaign Organisation, Ayo Fadaka, described the development as another rape of democracy in Nigeria.

 

The PDP said the election result was a total disregard for the electoral desires of the people as validly expressed through the ballot.

 

The statement read, “The Edo State Governorship Election results represent another rape on democracy in Nigeria and for the umpteenth time, we declare that this is absolutely condemnable, as it betrays a total disregard for the electoral desires of the people as validly expressed through the ballot.

“Nigerians are not fooled by the officially declared result by INEC, they know that PDP won that election and this is a shame on those who sit atop our affairs. It is disappointing that INEC could disregard the electoral law by shifting the collation of votes in the designated local government collation centres to its headquarters in Benin, this is expressly against the electoral law.

“In Ondo State, we have taken due cognisance of these dastardly acts committed by agencies saddled with the responsibilities to provide level playing grounds, and sadly failed to live up to expectations, it is a shameful act that lowers the status and respect due to Nigeria in the committee of nations.”

It noted that the PDP in Ondo had prepared to ensure that rules were followed in the November 16 governorship election.

“We need to underscore that we will not acquiesce or take kindly to any act geared towards compromising votes in our election. We state emphatically for all to see and hear that Ondo is not Edo, our attitude, understanding and patience differ, we will vote and protect our vote here. We are resolved to give everything to ensure that the electoral desires of our people will command attention and attain the desired goals.

“As they say, politics is local, in Ondo State, the people are already protesting against the hardship imposed on them by the APC government, they are protesting against hunger, lack and want, Ondo State people are protesting against the high inflationary trend that has denied them not only the future but even the present!

“In Ondo State, we are already protesting against a Party, the APC and a government that has institutionalised hardship, penury and poverty and our protest day is the 16th of November, we thus sound a note of warning to those whose trade is the compromise of ballot that danger looms if they seek to tamper with our votes,” the statement read.

US Supreme Court Strikes Out Case Against Trump’s Presidential Bid

 

The US Supreme Court has ruled that Donald Trump is eligble to contest the presidential election.

 

In a unanimous decision on Monday, the US Supreme Court dismissed a Colorado state court’s ruling that could have prevented Trump from appearing on the ballot due to allegations of insurrection.

 The ruling arrives at a critical juncture, on the eve of the Super Tuesday primaries, which are anticipated to solidify Trump’s lead in the race for the Republican nomination against President Joe Biden in the upcoming November elections.

 

This decision marks the most significant election-related case the court has addressed since the controversial halt of the Florida vote recount in the 2000 presidential election between Republican George W. Bush and Democrat Al Gore.

 

The central issue considered by the nine justices was whether Trump’s alleged involvement in the January 6, 2021, Capitol riot by his supporters rendered him ineligible for the Republican presidential primary ballot in Colorado.

 

In a decisive 9-0 vote, the court, which leans conservative, determined that the judgment by the Colorado Supreme Court to disqualify Trump based on these grounds “cannot stand,” thus ensuring the 77-year-old frontrunner’s placement on the state’s primary ballot.

 

This case originated from a December ruling by the Colorado Supreme Court, which, invoking the 14th Amendment of the Constitution, sought to disqualify Trump from the ballot due to his purported role in the Capitol attack.

 

The attack was an attempt by a mob to stop the certification of Biden’s 2020 election win.

 

Specifically, Section 3 of the 14th Amendment prohibits anyone who has engaged in “insurrection or rebellion” against the Constitution from holding public office.

 

However, during the two-hour arguments last month, both conservative and liberal justices of the US Supreme Court expressed reservations about allowing individual states to determine the eligibility of presidential candidates for the November ballot.

 

On Monday, the top court ruled that “responsibility for enforcing Section 3 against federal officeholders and candidates rests with Congress and not the States.”

The national leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has announced March 19, 2016 as the date for the party’s national convention.
The convention would be used to elect new members of the National Working Committee (NWC).

MASSOB Rejects Governors' Resolution Plan, Insists on Biafra

MASSOB has said it will not accept the truce being brokered by the South-East governors and stakeholders if Nnamdi Kanu is not released unconditionally as they still insist on Biafra.

The Movement for Actualization for Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) and Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) on Wednesday rejected efforts by the Southeast governors and Stakeholders to end the on-going protests by its members over the continued detention of the Director of Radio Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu and other Igbo activists.

 

Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo State who spoke to reporters on behalf of the Stakeholders after their marathon meeting at Government House, Enugu on Sunday said that a committee would be set up to dialogue with the pro-Biafra agitators with a view to ending the crisis.

 

But MASSOB in a statement rejected the resolutions arguing that it did not address the major issue for the protests which has to do with the continued detention of Nnamdi Kanu by government.

 

 

The release signed by Uchenna Madu, National Director of Information of MASSOB said the only way to end the crisis is the unconditional release of Kanu.

 

The statement reads:

 

“MASSOB is not satisfied with all the meeting of Igbo leaders on Sunday because of no seriousness on the plight of Nnamdi Kanu.

“How can revered Igbo leaders waste a whole day in a marathon meeting without discussing our simple demand of Nnamdi Kanu’s release?.

“Are they afraid of Northern oligarchy, western alliance with north or President Buhari?. The governors Ohaneze and other Igbo leaders have proved that they’re not representing the interest and demands of Ndigbo.

“They have shown their soft mind, inferiority complex and loyalty to our oppressors, we shall prove to Nigeria that the Igbo governors, national assembly members, other Igbo leaders are not truly in charge of affairs in Igboland.

“DSS is buying time for long incarceration of Nnamdi Kanu to impress Buhari and Northern Political cabals that they can frustrate Biafra revolution.

“Long incarceration of Nnamdi Kanu by DSS will only motivate, inspire and increase the moral of Biafran agitators. How long shall they continue to detain an innocent man who already command the massive respect of Ndigbo even in detention?.

“MASSOB and IPOB members are not demonstrating or protesting against infrastructural decay in Igboland or non inclusion of Igbos in major political appointments but the release of our brother, Nnamdi Kanu who represent the genuine desire of the people eastern region.

“Other demands and clamor of Ndigbo as a result of the current political tension are good but major one now is the release of Nnamdi Kanu.”
